Mama Q’s Restaurant Review

I’m always down for some pizza. I think the chase for the perfect pizza is an ongoing quest. To be honest, I had never heard of this place. I don’t exactly get to that side of town that often and because of the location, I might have missed it on a casual drive by kind of day.

Food: I kind of like my pizza with everything on it, so when I saw a pizza called the “Kitchen Sink” $14 for a medium (Menu Description: Mama’s simmered tomato sauce, pepperoni, sausage, red onions, and fresh mushrooms.) I knew that was what I was getting.  I had prepared and hadn’t eaten breakfast, I was there for lunch.  It took about 10-15 minutes for the pie to come out, so considering it’s made to order, pretty fast.  I was eating there, I wasn’t about to drive all the way downtown before eating this bad boy.

As you can see, this is a no non-sense kind of place. It’s more of a delivery place but there are a few tables to sit at if you wanted to eat there. When the pizza came out, I immediately noticed how fresh everything looked. I love onions and I love it even more that they used purple onions. I just like them so much more. The pizza tasted as good as it looked. The crust had a nice firmness to it and a slight crunch. Not a ton of crust either, they took the ingredients out about as far as they can without making it messy for the eater. Honestly, you know how much I like ranch, and yes, I’m one of those bizarre people that like ranch on their pizza. Well, I didn’t do it with this pizza (although they have a specialty pizza with ranch on it too) and I’m glad I didn’t. The pizza was perfect without having to make any heathen like changes to it.

The last thing I tried was the Cinnamon-Maple Sticks $4.00 (Menu Description: Unbelievably great cinnamon and maple baked right in with a side of smooth maple icing). If you’ve ever ordered Cinnastix from Domino’s, you will see they look exactly the same. Actually they taste the same with one difference, the Maple Icing instead of white icing. I thought this was a nice touch, I liked it. This was a good way to end the meal. I had leftovers too.

Extras: You can see that it’s mainly a grab and go, or delivery. So, don’t expect an amazing dinning experience. They aren’t Pele’s Wood Fire. I would suggest Mama Q’s, it’s better than your traditional chain delivery company and they are local. You should always go local if you can, especially when it’s good like Mama Q’s.

The Good:
– Prices are in line with other pizza delivery places
– Very fresh ingredients
– Great taste
– I met the owner and he seems to really enjoy his job and making great food.
– The mural was painted by Mandarin High School

The Bad:
– It’s too far from my house :)

I love food and I love to make people laugh. This blog started out as a place for me to just vent about some crappy food and turned out that I stumbled into some good food along the way. I'm a father of 2, husband, and master of nothing.
