In my opinion, you are going there for the atmosphere and that adds to what I would say is average to good pizza. Not great but I think the atmosphere bumps it up a notch.

Location: It’s located in the shopping center directly to the left of Tinseltown (if you are looking right at Tinseltown) It is at the end of that shopping center.
Food: After working the Jacksonville Craft Beer Fest, I needed something to eat. And no, I wasn’t drinking at the Fest
Being that Mellow Mushroom is open till 2am, I thought I would try out one of their specialty pizzas. Since it was so late, this review was going to be done at home at the comfort of my couch. I ordered the “Magical Mystery Tour” which is described as: pesto based pizza and crust with button and portobello mushrooms, mozzarella, spinach, feta and jalapenos. I went with the 14″ medium for $21.50. As far as the pizza goes, I felt that it wasn’t anything special. The mozzarella was kind of tasteless and the pesto was kind of bland too. It was cooked correctly and there were plenty of mushrooms and jalapenos but the feta was kind of lacking. Maybe I just got a bad pie? I will try another one before I give this place a thumbs up or down. For right now, it’s just a thumb to the side.
Extras: Now, here is where Mellow Mushroom excels. As you can see from the picture of the mural inside, the atmosphere is pretty different than your run of the mill pizza joint. Lots of art, like in the picture above, all around the restaurant, it’s pretty neat. They also had live music doing covers of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, which made me happy. There is something to be said about the outside seating too, there is plenty of it and there are a ton of TV’s out there. I really like the atmosphere and that is why I would pay the extra money (I think the pizza is slightly overpriced). I know I’m going against the grain with all the other reviews on Urbanspoon by not being a huge fan, so maybe it was just a bad night for them.
The Good
- You won’t find a more unique atmosphere in Jacksonville
- Great outdoor seating
The Bad
- Pizza was just average
- Slightly overpriced

The buffalo chicken pizza is really good. When I go for lunch I actually get their jerk chicken hoagie which is awesssssssome.
We’ve stopped going to Mellow Mushroom – the quality of the pizzas has gone down and most noticeably, the amount of toppings has decreased considerably per pie. We are gluten free so it was one of the only places we could get a good pizza, but the price just wasn’t worth it anymore. Have you tried Tommy’s Brick Oven Pizza?
